Engaging Influencers with Twitter in the Age of Obama
Your first thought might be to grow as large a Twitter audience as possible, but it often makes more sense to get the right audience to follow you, even if it is a smaller one. For a think tank like the Center for American Progress, we target our Twitter audience with a strategy designed to influence influencers. We maximize our ability to reach and engage influencers on Twitter by not only focusing on which staff tweets for us and how our institutional channels amplify them, but also by identifying the right influencers and using an array of Twitter tools to effectively engage them.
When successful, this strategy gets our ideas and brand into conversations key influencers are having with their communities, some influencing broad constituencies who shape the public discourse, others directly influencing policymakers. How do we do it?
